Oil
Oil can be used on most woods, especially new woods and outdoor furniture.
Teak oil, tung oil, old English oil or lemon oil can be applied.
Just rub on with a soft cloth and make sure any excess is wiped off
after it has sunk in.
Do not apply oil to a waxed surface.
Wax
Waxing has a moisturising effect on woods, particularly old woods.
It gives a rich, dull sheen. Use a soft cloth and wipe thinly over
the surface of the wood. Let the wax sink in for about half an hour
and then buff it with the cloth.
How often you wax depends on the climatic condition. Air con and
heating can dry woods out and they will need more regular waxing,
but in Singapore this shouldn’t mean more than every couple
of months.
Ring Remover
Heat rings and watermarks will appear on wood surfaces after some
contact. These can easily be removed by using a wood reviver or ring
remover as long as the bare wood has not been stained.
